Description
B04003 – Antique Japanese soy bottle "JAPANSCHZOYA" and "CPD".
A beautiful soy bottle of porcelain, made in Arita, Japan.
The bottle is manufactured for export of soya by the Dutch VOC (Dutch East India Company) from Japan to Europe. From 1641 to 1859 the Dutch were the only ones allowed to trade with Japan. That could only on the isolated island of Deshima near Nagasaki. From this trading post soy was transported.
The inscription reads on the front "JAPANSCHZOYA" at the bottom of the bottle "CPD" which stands for "comprador Deshima". On the back is an oval mark applied inside "CPD" and the legend "compradors decima" and Japanese characters.
